Do I need a sailing licence?

No. Every Athena Catamarans charter is sailed by a professional captain — sit back, swim, sunbathe, or take the helm in light wind if you'd like to learn. The captain handles the sailing; you handle the holiday.

Which catamaran fits my group size?

Couples and pairs are best on our 37–40 ft catamarans. Small families of 4–6 fit comfortably on a 39–42 ft boat. Groups of 6–10 typically pick a 46–48 ft catamaran. Larger groups of 10–12 are best on our 50 ft+ vessels. For an all-crewed luxury experience for ten guests, our flagship sailing catamaran is the right call. Tell us your group size and we'll match the right boat — request a quote and we'll come back with two or three options that fit.

What does the weekly charter price include?

The yacht itself, the captain, insurance to the levels required by Greek charter law, safety equipment, dinghy with outboard, bimini, bed linens, towels, and full galley equipment. The catamaran detail page lists the standard inclusions for that specific vessel.

What's not included — what should I budget for?

Beyond the headline rate, expect to pay for end-of-charter cleaning, fuel, marina fees on nights you spend away from the home base, provisioning (food and drink), and the captain's daily food allowance. A customary captain tip is appreciated but not obligatory. Optional extras (water toys, paddleboards, premium provisioning) are quoted on request. We send an itemised quote so there are no surprises.

How is a luxury crewed charter different?

Luxury crewed charters are all-inclusive. The flagship vessels carry a captain, hostess and chef. All meals, premium beverages, water toys, fuel, port fees, and on-board Wi-Fi are included in the weekly rate. Only optional shore excursions and the customary crew tip are extra.

How does the booking and payment schedule work?

A 15% deposit by bank transfer locks your dates. A second 35% is due about two weeks before departure. The remaining balance is collected by separate notice ahead of your charter, per the schedule we email you. Until the deposit clears, the boat may be released to other charterers.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations made well in advance of departure receive a refund of the deposit. Cancellations closer to departure may allow the deposit to be transferred to alternative dates subject to availability. Cancellations very close to departure are non-refundable. We strongly recommend travel insurance with charter cancellation cover. Force-majeure events trigger a full refund or alternative-vessel offer at your choice.

How far in advance should I book?

For peak summer dates, the most-requested boats are typically reserved several months in advance, so the earlier the better. Shoulder season (May–June, September–October) is more flexible. Early-bird discounts apply for bookings confirmed before the start of the season.

When is the best time to charter in Greece?

The Greek charter season runs April through October. May–June and September–October offer warm weather, lower crowds, and shoulder-season prices. July–August is peak — the warmest water, the busiest harbours, and stronger winds in the Aegean. Each month has its own character; tell us what you're after and we'll suggest the right window.

Where can I start my charter from?

We operate from eleven marinas across Greece — bases in the Ionian (Lefkada, Corfu, Preveza), the Saronic Gulf and Cyclades (Athens, Lavrion, Mykonos, Paros), the Sporades (Skiathos, Volos) and the Dodecanese (Kos). Each catamaran is based at a specific marina; the detail page tells you which one.

Can I do a one-way charter?

Yes — common routes include Athens to the Cyclades, Lefkas to Corfu, and Kos to Rhodes. A drop-off fee applies depending on the distance and repositioning logistics. Tell us the bases and dates and we'll quote the all-in price.

Are these charters family-friendly?

Yes. Catamarans are stable, low-heel, family-friendly platforms with wide decks, shallow draft for sandy bays, and separate cabins so children get their own space. Captains are experienced with families and adapt the daily routing for swim stops and family-friendly anchorages.

What happens if there is bad weather?

The captain has final authority over routing, anchorage selection, and refusing to sail in unsafe conditions. If conditions are challenging, we wait it out in a sheltered bay or marina — the catamaran is your floating accommodation regardless of whether we're moving or anchored.
